KAMPALA – Uganda Airlines signed a short-term lease agreement with DAT, a Lithuanian airline based in Karm?lava, Lithuania. The agreement aims to boost the airline’s operational efficiency during the winter schedule.

The leased A320-200 mid-range aircraft, which is 9.3 years old, will complement Uganda Airlines’ existing CRJ and A330 fleet. The aircraft comes with its own pilots and cabin crew and will support the airline in maintaining schedule integrity while part of its regional fleet undergoes periodic maintenance.

This strategic lease will also enable Uganda Airlines to resolve operational challenges on routes such as Johannesburg and Kinshasa, where capacity limitations have hindered efficient operations. Additionally, the lease will augment operations on services to Nairobi, Lagos, and Abuja.

“We are delighted to announce this partnership with DAT, which will support our operations. With our previous lease, we have seen significant growth in demand across our network. This new lease will enable us to increase capacity deployment on specific routes to sustain this demand,” said Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki.

“The leased A320 is intended to cushion our operation, especially during the festive season, when travel tends to spike due to leisure and business travel. We also look forward to enhanced cargo freighting for our customers,” added Bamuturaki.

The leased aircraft features a 156-seater, two-class cabin configuration, comprising 12 business class and 144 economy seats. It also offers increased capacity for passenger baggage and cargo.

Uganda Airlines invites the traveling public and the business community to take advantage of the increased capacity.
