Pearl Bank scoops top honour at 2026 FiRe Awards

Kampala, Uganda — Pearl Bank has won the Gold Award for Integrated Report of the Year, the highest honour at the Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards. It is the bank’s first gold for integrated reporting since it changed its name from PostBank Uganda.

The bank completed a double win at the 2026 ceremony, held on Wednesday evening at Kampala Serena Hotel, by also taking the Financial Services Reporting award in the Banking Services Tier 1 category.

Chief Financial Officer Peter Ssenyange said the recognition marked a milestone for the bank in its first year under the new brand.

“Winning both the Gold Award for Integrated Report of the Year and the Tier 1 Financial Services Award under the Pearl Bank identity is a profound milestone,” Ssenyange said.

He said the bank’s integrated report gave a complete picture of its financial performance, strategy, governance and sustainability impact.

“These accolades motivate us to continue leveraging technology and innovation to produce reports that meet international standards and serve all our stakeholders as we pursue our high-impact goals of driving sustainable financial inclusion and stimulating entrepreneurship and service,” he said.

The FiRe Awards are organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), together with the Capital Markets Authority, the Uganda Securities Exchange and Vision Group. They recognise organisations for excellence in financial reporting, governance, sustainability disclosure and the use of technology to meet international standards. This year’s awards ran under the theme “Driving Sustainability Reporting through Technology and Innovation”.

ICPAU President CPA Timothy Ediomu urged organisations to prepare early for sustainability reporting. Uganda adopted the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards in 2024 and launched an implementation roadmap in 2025. He said voluntary adoption begins this year, ahead of mandatory reporting for key entities by 2028.

“I urge organisations to embrace technology, innovation and early adoption to strengthen transparency, accountability and investor confidence as we prepare for the 2028 mandatory enactment,” Ediomu said.

The chief guest, Uganda Communications Commission Executive Director George William Nyombi, said technology was critical to credible sustainability reporting. He backed the call for early preparation.

The award comes a year after the bank’s transition from PostBank Uganda. Shareholders approved the new name in June 2025, and the Bank of Uganda issued an operating licence to Pearl Bank Uganda Limited in November 2025.

According to the bank, it has kept services seamless for customers through the transition while refreshing its identity, digital platforms and sustainability agenda. It serves customers through 59 branches, more than 8,000 agents, the Wendi mobile wallet, the Pearl Bank App, Pearl Online and smart ATMs.

The latest win adds to a growing list of honours. At last year’s FiRe Awards, held at Hotel Africana, the bank won the Banking Services – General Banking award. The bank says it also earned bronze for integrated reporting in 2023 and 2024. In 2025, Ssenyange was named Chief Financial Officer of the Year at the CFO Awards.

Pearl Bank traces its roots to 1926, when it began as the Post Office Savings Department. It was incorporated as PostBank Uganda Limited in 1998 and is wholly owned by the Government of Uganda.
