The consumption of locally produced television content has significantly increased among Ugandan audiences regardless of social status, especially with the platforms offered by pay TV channels like MultiChoice Uganda’s Pearl Magic, Pearl Magic Prime and Pearl Magic Loko.
But with audience favourites such as the reality show Kampala Creme and the Damalie series ending their seasons, while Sanyu is currently running its last episodes, viewers have been left wondering, what next.
However, during their 2024 media showcase, MultiChoice Uganda announced new and exciting shows that are going to replace the ones taking a break and those coming to an end.
During the event held at their offices in Kololo, Brian Mulondo, the company’s local content marketing manager, revealed that the new shows which started airing on April 14 include Mum vs Wife, which is replacing Kampala Creme on Pearl Magic Prime and Zensega, which is replacing Damalie on Pearl Magic Loko.
Mum vs Wife, which is hosted by renowned media personality Robina Mbabazi Mulera alias Bina Baibe and produced by Jerry Sesanga, is about a man’s mother and his wife cooking. The man, blindfolded, tastes both dishes and decides which one is better, with the expected ensuing drama.
Mulondo, however, confirmed that Kampala Creme and Damalie are just taking a season’s break and will be back bigger and better with new seasons.
“But, in the meantime, we are giving our viewers who might have missed out on these shows a chance to catch up starting from the first episodes so that by the time the second seasons come out, they are also at par,” he said, assuring fans of re-runs.
As Sanyu comes to an end after four seasons, MultiChoice has already started production of a new series, Crossroads, which will be premiering on June 26 to replace the popular series. Crossroads, according to Mulondo, is going to be the channel’s biggest show ever.

Hassan Saleh, the managing director of MultiChoice Uganda, said the new content shows the commitment they have made to continue investing in local content, grow the industry and continue tapping into talent so as to keep audiences glued on their screens.
“We believe that the power of content is not only entertainment but also to educate and inspire; and that is why we are deeply invested in nurturing Uganda’s film industry and producing original award-winning shows. Today, Sanyu is in the top five ranked series in Africa and that is how powerful our locally produced content is,” he said.
With the entertainment company soon celebrating its 30-year anniversary in Uganda, Saleh said these 30 years have enabled them to elevate local content to new heights, reaffirming their dedication to meeting customers’ viewing needs.
“Our commitment does not stop at content. We are dedicated to delivering seamless services to audiences with cutting-edge technology to ensure that our customers enjoy our services uninterrupted.”
Besides the new local content, Pearl Magic Prime has been brought to lower packages. The channel is now available on DStv Access and Gotv Plus. Additionally, Pearl Magic Loko, the strictly Luganda flagship channel, and Pearl Magic are also going to be merged into one channel called Pearl Magic Reloaded starting May 1.
This year’s media showcase was hosted by radio presenter and actress Malaika Nnyanzi. The cast of Kampala Crème Laika, Etania, Mami Deb and Zahara Totto were also in attendance. At the end of the night, Laika performed some of her music while Etania and Zahara Totto (DJ Zato) put their toxic beef aside and showed their skills on the decks.
