Golf: Rugumayo pitches camp in Kenya 

Ronald Rugumayo is still pained by his day-two collapse at Sigona that harmed his chances of qualifying for the 2023 Magical Kenya Open.

But the Tooro-born and bred golfer is not one to dwell on bygones. With two more events to go in the Safari Tour, at Karen and Muthaiga next month on February 4 and 18, Rugumayo has decided to camp in Kenya.

He told The Observer recently that he wants to give himself the best possible chance to play to the best of his ability at Karen and Muthaiga.

“The main reason I stayed here is because I need to play well. I need to put up a great performance, which means I need to practice for Karen and Muthaiga regularly.”

None of Rugumayo’s rivals on the Safari Tour Order of Merit Nyambo Nyasha and Visitor Mapwanya, both Zimbabweans, cashed in on his Sigona woes. Rugumayo missed the cut on Sigona by a stroke after a pattern of two double-bogeys and a bogey. He is, however, confident of correcting his Sigona wrongs at Karen.
