Fallen Soroti chief magistrate Margret Aanyu was charming, charismatic 

Judiciary has described the former Soroti chief magistrate, Margret Aanyu as a hardworking, charismatic, and committed judicial officer who offered service beyond self.

In a tribute, Aanyu was described as enthusiastic about life, and judicial service and was always available to share her vibrancy with all people she interacted with.

“As the judicial family, we shall always miss the charming and charismatic personality of HW Aanyu, well aware that she is resting with the angels,” the tribute reads.

Aanyu died at Kampala hospital on Sunday, October 15 after a short illness. She was found lying unconscious in her house in Soroti on Friday by members of staff who had reportedly taken some official documents for signing.

According to the Judiciary, Aanyu joined judicial service in 2009 as a grade one magistrate before earning a promotion to chief magistrate in 2021 when she was posted to Soroti magisterial area. She also served as the chairperson of Mengo court commercial justice sub-committee between 2012 and 2013. 

Aanyu was admitted and enrolled to the Roll of Advocates of High court in 1998 having started her legal career in 1996 in private practice. Aanyu, 54, will be buried on Saturday at her home in Kasooka village in Bukedea district, according to the program shared on Teso media platforms.
