10 people were hacked to death

Ten people have been killed by unknown assailants in Kamwenge district, western Uganda.

The attack occurred yesterday Monday evening in Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge sub-county. Our reporter has so far seen at least ten dead bodies. The assailants attacked locals in a bar at around 10 pm, hacking some to death and abducting others.

The assailants also set ablaze some houses. Among the dead is the female councilor of Kyanadara parish only identified as ‘Night’. The identities of the other victims were yet to be established.

Last week, Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) claimed to have killed two suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels and captured their commander within the Kibale Forest national park, in Kamwenge district.

Gen Felix Kulayigye, UPDF spokesperson, said that the rebels were among the escapees following the operation ‘Shuja’ which is being conducted in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
