KCCA parted ways with former coach Sergio Traguil

KCCA FC board decided to sack coach Sergio Traguil, four and a half months into his reign. The Portuguese superintended over the worst start to the league season when KCCA lost its first four games.

Traguil’s coaching stint is possibly one of the shortest in KCCA history. While Traguil’s appointment back in July was greeted with some fanfare at Lugogo about the advent of a new dawn, its implosion has surprised many. But sources inside the club, who preferred to remain anonymous said that a section of established players in the team fell out with the coach.

It is reported that before KCCA’s 1-3 loss to Kitara FC last week, the board summoned some players to discuss the team’s poor results. The players said they did not understand the coach’s tactics because he changed a lot from one game to another. However, some observers said that KCCA is suffering from player power issues, something that was never the case during former coach Mike Mutebi’s reign.

In fact, Traguil had noticed that player power and was concentrating on working with young players ready to listen. In addition, Traguil wanted some of the star players’ contracts to change.

Instead of having open terms, Traguil wanted players to be paid based on performance, which created a mutiny therein. Notably, these problems have resulted from fights in the club’s top administration. While some officials wanted the coach backed, others like Jackson Mayanja, a club legend, who was recently inducted to the board, wants Sam Ssimbwa to be hired.

Then there is Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s conflicts with Ali Nganda Mulyanyama, a former board member that he sacked. This, it is reported, stifled the sense of reason aspect that Mulyanyama brought to the board.

Add the fact that Aggrey Ashaba, was also relieved of his duties as vice-chairman. This is because of reported interests from council members (politicians with little football knowledge apparently), who want to have more influence in the club. This is something that is threatening the club secretariat, too. Therefore, it is inevitable that KCCA find itself in dire straits now!
