URSB highlights key role in private sector growth

KAMPALA, Uganda – Uganda’s Registrar General, Mercy K. Kainobwisho, highlighted the crucial role of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) in promoting private sector growth and improving the country’s investment climate.
Kainobwisho made the remarks during a Business and Innovation Forum for commercial attachés held at the URSB headquarters in Kololo, which brought together foreign diplomats, ministers, URSB board members, and government representatives.
“As the official custodian of critical business and legal documents, URSB plays a vital role in facilitating private sector growth and improving Uganda’s investment climate,” Kainobwisho said.
Established in 1910, URSB maintains extensive records, including private company registrations, name changes, and legal documents. The bureau also holds valuable information on movable property, company insolvency, liquidation proceedings, and bankruptcy cases.
In addition, URSB is responsible for intellectual property records, including trademarks, patents, designs, and utility models dating back to the 1960s.
Kainobwisho emphasized the importance of URSB’s public service role, noting that citizens engage regularly with the information under their stewardship.
“Our systems help verify critical business and legal information that impacts daily transactions,” she said.
The Business and Innovation Forum aimed to showcase URSB reforms and innovations, engage with the diplomatic community, and promote Uganda as an investment destination.
The event highlighted Uganda’s commitment to improving its business environment and attracting foreign investment.
URSB maintains regional offices throughout Uganda to provide in-person services to citizens and foreign visitors, serving as a cornerstone of Uganda’s business registration and intellectual property infrastructure.
