The eighth edition of the Entebbe Golf Club match-play challenge got underway on Saturday, March 16.

Attracting a total of 208 amateur golfers, the championship is set to run for the next seven months in Entebbe, culminating in several prizes being won in every round, played at least once a month during that period.

At the tee-off last weekend, a Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicle was on offer from Cfao Motors for a hole-in-one. Unfortunately, none of the golfers, both men and women, were able to pull it off, leaving the beautiful Hybrid car available for the next rainy day.

Yet, even with the hole-in-one attempt failing, a total of 14 men and women ended round one that covered the whole day with a host of prizes from trophies, bags and gift hampers. This ranged from one whose shot came closest to the pin, longest drive, to finishing top or runners-up on the leaderboard.

Serwano Walusimbi, the captain of the Entebbe Golf Club, said that the tournament is competitive because golfers are paired against each other. With bigger prizes still at stake, the championship, which is sponsored by Stanbic, DStv, Cfao and Uganda Airlines is set to be more exciting.
