Ronald Makata
Ronald Makata, Stanbic bank Uganda’s new chief finance and value management officer, has already set his eyes on improving the institution’s efficiency.
Makata, whose appointment was announced on December 4 by the Stanbic chief executive Anne Juuko, replaces Abraham Ongenge who has since moved to Stanbic bank Kenya as executive head for personal and private banking.
“I am pleased to confirm Makata’s appointment as our substantive chief finance and value management officer. His experience, and passion for uplifting young professionals, supporting them through their career journeys to ensure they realise their full potential and progress through coaching, direct transfer of skill and exposure to the real work environment is particularly exciting for our young professionals in the bank,” said Anne Juuko in a statement.
On his part, Makata said he is happy to take on this new responsibility and appreciate the confidence in his abilities.
“I look forward to working with a team of largely young talented professionals to enhance operational efficiency, transform client experience and creating more value for shareholders.”
So, in this new position, Makata will act as the bank’s value manager, report directly to Juuko and work closely with the board of directors to provide quality, relevant, reliable and timely reporting.
He will also ensure that the bank maintains balance sheet resilience and a strong control environment on top of improving finance processes through digitization. After starting out at Stanbic in 2013 as a manager of financial reporting, Makata moved up to take on a number of prominent positions, including head of client solutions banking, head of financial controller, and most recently, head of treasury and capital management.
He is credited for leading and managing several key assignments that have transformed the bank including embedding strong financial controls across Africa, business transformation projects, client simplification journey and digitisation projects.
In addition to having a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University, Makata is also a certified coach and professional accountant. He is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a member of the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA).
