PostBank Uganda leads blood donation drive to address shortage

PostBank MD and UBTS ED Donating Blood

KAMPALA, Uganda— PostBank Uganda has partnered with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) to launch a nationwide blood donation drive aimed at addressing the country’s blood shortage.

The initiative, launched at PostBank Uganda’s Head Office, seeks to encourage Ugandans to donate blood to ensure that health centers have enough blood to save lives.

“We are calling upon all who are able to donate blood today so that together, we can save a life,” said Julius Kakeeto, PostBank Uganda Managing Director. “A sound economy is one where the population is in good health and can actively participate in the different socio-economic activities.”

According to UBTS, Uganda requires approximately 1,000 units of blood daily and over 400,000 units annually. The high demand for blood is attributed to road accidents, illnesses among children and pregnant mothers, among others.

Dr. Dorothy Kyeyune Byabazaire, UBTS Executive Director, thanked PostBank Uganda for spearheading the blood donation drive. “Access to safe blood is a critical healthcare need in Uganda, essential for saving lives in medical emergencies.”

The blood donation drive will be conducted in the Northern, Eastern, and Western regions of Uganda, in addition to Kampala.
