Police is hunting for one of their own, constable Ivan Wabwiire who shot and killed Uttam Bhandari, the director of TFS Financial Services near Yako Bank at Raja Chambers along Parliamentary Avenue.
Wabwire reportedly fired three bullets at Bhandari, an Indian national at about 1.30 pm today. According to police, Wabwire acquired a loan from TFS in 2020 and had reportedly come to get a quotation to take to an unidentified bank so that the bank buys off his loan. It is unclear what transpired between the two and led to the shooting.
“A man just walked into a money lender’s office here at Raja chamber, shot an Indian guy dead and he majestically walked out. I just heard bullets next to me. Yes, our office wall is the separator,” the message shared on social media platforms read in part.
Wabwiire allegedly arrived on motorcycle and left using the same after the gruesome act. He dropped off his killer at the Kampala Central police station (CPS) before disappearing. The incident comes less than two weeks after the state minister for Labour, Charles Okello Engola, was shot dead by his army bodyguard Pte Wilson Sabiiti.
In the same week, on Saturday, blogger, Ibrahim Tusubira aka Isma Olaxess aka Jajja Ichuli got gunned down outside his house in Kyanja, Nakawa Division, in Kampala.
