A 17-year-old girl who was reported to have been killed by a mob was found alive in a mortuary at Apac General Hospital.

Marion Adoch, a resident of Matimia Ward in Arocha Division, Apac municipality in northern Uganda was found breathing as doctors prepared to conduct a postmortem on her.

North Kyoga police spokesperson Patrick Okema says that the victim was on Thursday beaten by a mob for allegedly stealing bananas belonging to Tom Ebong, a local resident.

According to Okema, police officers visited the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and took Adoch’s presumed dead body to the hospital mortuary.

However, she was found to be alive in the mortuary by doctors just moments before the obligatory postmortem. She was immediately moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) under close monitoring.

A doctor at the hospital who preferred anonymity says that Adoch is still in critical condition. Okema, says that Ebong has been arrested for allegedly participating in the attack and others are still at large. Okema appealed to the public to desist from acts of mob justice.
