Kenneth Mugabi and Naava Grey

There is something special about the past three musical concerts that have happened at Kampala Serena hotel.

They have all been a success via attendance and via execution on stage. We are talking about Azawi’s Sankofa concert, Aziz Azion’s Strings of Love and Kenneth Mugabi’s People of the Land concert that happened last Friday evening. This was Mugabi’s first concert and by the time the show ended, he had stamped his mark on the entertainment scene.

The soulful artiste stepped on stage at 9 pm, with a full choir and band. He started off his first session with Neyanzizza, before proceeding to Akanamba, Ntesa and Omukwano, among others. In this session, Happy Kyazze joined him on stage playing the saxophone.

Mugabi ended the session with Beautiful, which was partly sung by the audience, and Nambi. He was then joined by Naava Grey to do their collaboration, Owuwo, before he left her to wow the audience with songs such as Omuloge and Nteredde.

Zulitums came on next with Oluvannyuma and Uberman, before Mugabi returned for his second session. He kicked it off with Cinderella, with a bunch of young ballet dancers from Dance Studio Uganda.

For more spice, Mugabi then introduced a poet to supplement his Asiya song, but what many considered one of the biggest highlights of the night was when Sewa Sewa came on stage with his janzi, followed by Myco Ouma with a guitar and then Mugabi picking his tube fiddle. Their blend? Magical, as they played Lundaganya.

It was, however, the third session that had fans singing along to every song. From Kibun’omu to Nkwegomba and Under Wraps, they sang along word for word while Lilian Mbabazi and Xenson also had their time to shine.
