RIP: Hussein Kyanjo

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Hussein Kyanjo, the former member of parliament for Makindye West.

He was not just a politician, but a rare gem in the realm of public service. Hussein Kyanjo embodied the values of honesty, incorruptibility, and unwavering commitment to the people he represented.

Throughout his career, Hussein Kyanjo never wavered in his dedication to serving the interests of the people. His commitment to justice was unyielding, and he abhorred any form of injustice. As a member of the Justice Forum (JEEMA) party, he carried their banner of uncompromised values, consistently fighting for what was right and fair.

In 2011, Hussein Kyanjo faced an unimaginable challenge. He was poisoned, but he displayed incredible resilience. Although he suffered complications, including the loss of his speech, he refused to be silenced.

Through perseverance and determination, he underwent surgery to fit a speech enhancing device, allowing his voice to be heard once again. Such indomitable spirit and courage were a testament to his unwavering dedication to his constituents.

Despite his health struggles, Hussein Kyanjo remained steadfast in his commitment to his promises. He had pledged to serve only two terms, and he honored that commitment. Such integrity in the face of political temptation is commendable and sets a powerful example for future politicians.

Kyanjo’s disillusionment with President Yoweri Museveni stemmed from his belief that the latter had betrayed the very people he claimed to have liberated from oppression. Decades before it happened, Kyanjo predicted Museveni’s descent into dictatorship and sadly, his prediction became reality.

He remained steadfast in his opposition, never compromising on his values and principles. He stood up to a regime that monetized politicians, refusing to be bought or sold. He fought for the rights of marginalized communities, including Muslims who were unfairly labeled as terrorists.

It is also important to acknowledge Hussein Kyanjo’s patriotism, an essential part of his identity. His love for his country was evident in his tireless efforts to bring about positive change. He fought for the rights of his fellow citizens, ensuring that their voices were heard and their grievances addressed.

Sadly, in the later years of his life, Hussein Kyanjo faced yet another battle, this time with cancerous complications. This cruel twist of fate did not dampen his spirit, as he continued to fight for justice until his last breath.

Even in his pain, Kyanjo showed the world the true meaning of forgiveness. Despite knowing his attacker, he resisted the urge for revenge, taking the higher road and trusting in the power of forgiveness. That’s a level of courage and restraint we rarely see.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, Hussein Kyanjo leaves behind an enduring legacy. His incorruptibility, honesty, and passionate pursuit of justice have left an indelible mark on the political landscape. In a world often marred by self-interest and dishonesty, he will forever be remembered as a shining example of what a true leader should be.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his presence. Hussein Kyanjo’s memory will live on, serving as a reminder that, indeed, there are politicians who can rise above the status quo and truly represent the aspirations of the people.

Rest in peace, Hussein Kyanjo, knowing that your fight for justice will continue to inspire generations to come.
