Electrify Africa expands EV charging infrastructure across Uganda

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Electrify Africa, a new initiative aimed at expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has officially launched in Uganda. The project, spearheaded by Simba Innovative Limited, seeks to develop a nationwide network of EV chargers, supporting Uganda’s shift toward cleaner, more sustainable transport.

The launch event, which took place in Kampala, was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the STI Secretariat and Uganda Emobility. The initiative is designed to address the growing demand for electric mobility in the country, while providing economic opportunities through a community-driven model.

“Electrify Africa aims to build a scalable and inclusive EV charging network that empowers local communities,” said a spokesperson from Simba Innovative Limited. “By involving individuals and businesses in the ownership of charging stations, we are creating income-generating opportunities and helping to reduce carbon emissions.”

The project’s expansion will focus on both urban and rural areas, with a strong emphasis on affordability and accessibility. Electrify Africa offers flexible ownership models that allow individuals and small businesses to co-own or invest in EV chargers. Early adopters are being offered subsidies to reduce the upfront cost, making the transition to electric mobility more accessible to a wider demographic.

As part of its efforts to promote electric vehicles, Electrify Africa is also running public awareness campaigns. The company has launched roadshows featuring Tesla Model X vehicles to educate communities on the benefits of electric mobility and to encourage participation in the growing EV ecosystem.

Looking ahead, Electrify Africa plans to continue expanding its charging network across Uganda and other African nations. The company is also exploring the integration of renewable energy sources, including solar-powered charging stations, to increase the sustainability of its network. Additionally, a mobile app is in development to provide users with easier payment options and usage tracking.

Simba Innovative Limited, the parent company of Electrify Africa, is a leading Ugandan technology firm focused on sustainable energy solutions and AI-driven platforms. The company aims to drive Africa’s transition to green energy and promote economic growth through innovation and inclusivity.
