According to Ethiopia's Amhara regional communications office, citizens from at least 23 countries have fled the conflict in Sudan and entered Metma Yohannes city in West Gondar zone of the Amhara region.

Fighting raged in Sudan on Friday, despite rival forces agreeing to extend a truce aimed to stem nearly two weeks of warfare that has killed hundreds and caused widespread destruction.

Battles between Sudan's army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary since mid-April have killed at least 459 people and injured more than 4,000, according to the WHO.
