Former Olympian Shadir Musa Bwogi was on February 6 voted the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) sports personality for the month of January.

Bwogi followed up by bagging the ForteBet Real Stars’ award on February 7 to complete a double triumph for the January accolades outside the boxing ring.

Bwogi, who represented Uganda at 2018 Commonwealth Games in GoldCoast Australia and 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan, switched to professional boxing last year.

Last month, Bwogi stopped Ivan Magumba to win the national super middleweight title at the MTN Arena at Lugogo. And that first-round knockout victory over Magumba earned Bwogi the two monthly awards.

“As a sportsman, it is very humbling because it shows that people have appreciated the hard work,” Bwogi remarked.

“This will only make me work harder so that I can grow in my career and in my sport.”

Bwogi was previously contracted to 12 Rounds Promotion but is now fighting under his OLY SMB Promotion. To win the Uspa award, Bwogi beat off competition from Mukono Women Pool Club, Itanda Kayakers and motocross rider, Waleed Omar.
