As long as you have breath…

Every time I am tempted to whimper to God about any unfortunate circumstances that may come my way, two incidents come to mind and I just shut up and praise God.

Praise God not for the painful things the people in those incidents have been through, but because I realise that whatever it is I may be going through…it could have been worse.

First incident are the parents that recently lost their newlywed daughter to a strange disease that took hold of her and in a few days she was dead. If that mother did not ask God any angry questions – as far as I have heard – then who am I to throw tantrums over the loss of things that money can replace?

The second instance is of the family of nine that perished in a motor accident last Friday evening, on their way to Mbarara for the Easter holiday.

What kind of pain does such devastation induce? What kind of questions are the people that survived them asking God? Can Easter ever be the same again?

See, I received yet another challenge over the Easter weekend and just as I was about to launch into a bitter tirade with my God, I thought of those two families and collected myself, then gave praise, instead.

For, my friend, as long as there is still breath in your body, there are multiple chances for a do- over in life. You can fix that car. You can pay that debt. You can replace what you lost in that fire. You can still testify the goodness of the Lord one day.

As long as you are still in the land of the living, there is still hope that things will be alright.  Quit grumbling and throwing teary tantrums for God. Those things don’t move Him; prayer does; worship does; faith does.
