AFROPAC Assembly Seeks to Combat Illicit Financial Flows

Ugandan Speaker of Parliament Anita Among addresses the 5th Assembly of the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC) in Kampala, calling on lawmakers to unite against illicit financial flows that drain Africa of an estimated US$88 billion annually

KAMPALA (Uganda) – Speaker of Parliament Anita Among urged lawmakers to join forces against illicit financial flows, citing devastating impacts on African economies.

Among made the call at the 5th Assembly of the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC) in Kampala, stressing that these flows undermine revenue collection, hinder development goals, and compromise service delivery.

Illicit financial flows pose a significant threat to sustainable development, often manifesting through corruption, smuggling, tax evasion, and human trafficking.

AFROPAC chairperson Medard Sseggona emphasized the need for a united front against illicit financial flows, highlighting the organization’s coalition with the African Union (AU).

The conference, held under the theme “Strengthening Legislative Action to Combat Illicit Financial Flows & Foster Public Financial Resilience,” brought together lawmakers from various African legislatures to develop effective strategies against illicit financial flows.
