Letshego Uganda, a subsidiary of Letshego Holdings Limited, has partnered with Africa’s leading insurtech company Turaco Insurance Brokers Ltd to provide affordable health insurance coverage to Letshego customers.

The partnership aims to mitigate financial risks associated with health. This is in line with Letshego’s mission to empower underserved populations and drive financial inclusion in Africa.

With only one per cent of Uganda’s population currently covered by formal insurance plans, the partnership will help close this gap. Letshego customers can now protect themselves and their families against unforeseen medical expenses.

The insurance product, called “LetsGo Insure,” will be embedded in and extend Letshego’s Deduct at Source solution. Thank you to technology developed by Turaco, qualified Letshego customers will be automatically enrolled in LetsGo Insure as part of the loan underwriting process.

LetsGo Insure offers two benefits: Hospital Cash and Last Expense Cover (burial benefit). Hospital Cash serves as income replacement in the event of hospitalisation with a benefit of Shs 1 million, while Life Cover (burial benefit) provides financial relief of Shs 2 million to the insured’s family in the unfortunate event of his demise to ease the burden of funeral expenses during a difficult time.

Giles Germany, CEO of Letshego Uganda, highlighted the importance of this partnership in enabling Letshego clients to be protected.

“We are committed to providing our customers with holistic financial solutions that meet their evolving needs.”

On his part, Turaco general manager Hamza Mutebi said: “Most Ugandans today remain unreached by mainstream insurance, leaving them incredibly vulnerable to financial shocks caused by illness, accidents, and death.”
