Ibanda man commits suicide after killing wife over coffee cash 

A 56-year-old man in Ibanda district, western Uganda has reportedly committed suicide after murdering his wife. 

 

Bernard Muhwezi allegedly hanged himself behind their family home after killing his wife Octavia Atuhaire. Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Region police spokesperson said preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been engulfed in a misunderstanding over money that Muhwezi had earned from selling over 100 kilograms of coffee.

Dinah Ashaba Mugisha the chairperson Rugaaga 5 cell said that Muhwezi hid in the nearby bushes after killing his wife – only to come out late at night when most people were sleeping to hang himself. 

She added that Muhwezi who had sold his coffee on Sunday tore the money into small pieces and threw it under the coffee tree where he was found hanging. The body of the deceased has been taken to Ruhoko health IV for postmortem.
