Young women entrepreneurs have been urged to master the courage of becoming go-getters if they are to succeed in the gruesome world of business.
This message was delivered by Ambassador Damali Ssali, chief programs and projects officer at the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda (PSFU) during the ‘Ambassador for a Day’ event organized by the British High Commission in Kampala.
The event, which aimed to promote gender equality and inspire a new generation of female leaders, provided an extraordinary platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to learn from the best in the market.
In collaboration with the Danish Embassy, Swedish Embassy, and UN Resident Coordinator, the British High Commission organized the annual ‘Ambassador for a Day’ competition to cultivate ambition, inspiration, and momentum among young women in Uganda by granting them the unique opportunity to shadow and learn from accomplished female ambassadors and businesswomen.
On June 1, ten exceptional young female students and aspiring entrepreneurs from various regions of Uganda, aged between 14 and 18, gathered at the British High Commission to engage in a day of mentorship and guidance.
These talented individuals emerged as winners from a rigorous selection process that required them to answer the thought-provoking question: “If you were the ambassador, what would you do to support a more equitable business environment for young women in Uganda?”
Ssali took the lead in facilitating the event, providing the participants with valuable business pitching skills that will undoubtedly shape their future endeavors. The interactive session encompassed a wide range of topics, including networking, career advancement, idea actualization, confidence building, personal branding, and effective positioning.
The attendees expressed deep appreciation for Ssali’s generosity in sharing her insights and tips. They recognized her as a beacon of knowledge and inspiration, highlighting her commitment to nurturing the next generation of female leaders and innovators. Tina Wamala, communications officer at the British High Commission, commended Ssali for her contributions.
“We are grateful to Ambassador Damali Ssali for accepting the invitation to speak to this new generation of powerful girls who represent the future of our nation and the world,” she said.
The event attracted young talents like Loena Cheryl Kusasira from Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga, Michelle Nmamate from Asifiwe International Academy, Praxedes Atuha Ngabirano from Home School, Nicole Babirye from Nabisunsa Girls, Nicole Tinka Asimire from Heritage International School, Karen Kakyo Kaboyo from Kampala Diplomatic School, Alicia Mirembe Thanzan (homeschooling), Patricia Nakalaala from Onwards and Upwards secondary school, and Gollapalli Pragna Sree from Delhi Public School, among others.
Ssali’s impressive career journey spans over 20 years, with more than 15 years in senior management roles. Her expertise in financial services, trade, business, innovation, and entrepreneurship has been honed through various esteemed positions and affiliations. She currently serves as the Ugandan Ambassador to the United Nations Women Entrepreneurship Day Organization and holds board memberships in organizations such as HiPipo.
