Bududa student killed by brother-in-law over PDM cash

A 21-year-old student of Bulucheke secondary school in Bududa district, Andrew Watetera has been hacked to death by his brother-in-law following a quarrel over Parish Development Model (PDM) cash.

The victim was a resident of Bunasaba village in Bumakita parish, Nalwanza sub-county. According to reports, Watetera had paid a visit to his brother-in-law, Samuel Mashetisha over the weekend, when an argument erupted over sharing of the money, they received via PDM.

Martine Sogoni, an eyewitness recounted that the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation. Despite initially overpowering Mashetisha, Watetera’s fortunes quickly turned.

Mashetisha entered the house, grabbed a machete, and mercilessly hacked Watetera on the head, killing him instantly. Attempting to conceal the crime, Mashetisha then took the lifeless body and hanged it from the roof using a rope, attempting to stage it as a suicide.

Rogers Taitika, Elgon Region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying that a manhunt for Mashetisha is underway. Once apprehended, Mashetisha will face charges of murder. Police transported Watetera’s body to Bududa hospital for a postmortem examination.

Authorities are actively investigating the motive behind the murder, focusing on the alleged dispute over the distribution of the PDM funds.
