Kabale University student arrested over robbery

A 26-year-old student of Kabale University, Gaston Kakuru Tumusiime has been arrested for alleged robbery and impersonation.
Tumusiime, a third-year student and a resident of Nyakambu village, in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality was arrested following a tip-off from a concerned local resident.
 
Tumusiime is accused of robbing Shs 1.5 million from Joseph Nuwagaba and a mobile phone and a Premio vehicle, registration number UAT 856J belonging to Patrick Aharizira.

He also allegedly robbed a watch, a mobile phone, and Shs 50,000 belonging to Naboth Twongyeirwe a health worker at Bubare trading center, Rubanda district.

Tumusiine is also accused of stealing laptops from his fellow students; Caroline Dushimana, Goreti Taremwa, Lillian Nsimenta, and Precious Ekyamagero and mobile phones from Edith Muhindo Mutiny.      

Elly Maate, police spokesperson for the Kigezi region says that when the suspect was arrested, he was also found with a T-shirt like that of the army. 

Tumusiime’s arrest comes at a time when Kabale town is battling a wave of machete-wielding men who waylay residents and break into houses. Since last month, about six people were cut and robbed in Kirigime and Nyabikoni ward’s central and southern divisions.
