That Capital Kitchen breakfast…!

Indeed, it is the Capital Kitchen, as in, the mother of all kitchens – at least with its spectacular layout and extremely comfy seats.
It is really a big kitchen and restaurant. Occupying the third floor at Thobani Centre along Kampala road, the restaurant can comfortably sit 200 diners at a go.
Although it has been on our review radar for nearly two years, The Observer only visited this week for their signature breakfast known as Kuku Box. It is advertised as priced at Shs 13,000 and comprises French toast, sausage, two English pancakes, three chicken wings, wedges and pasta.
But as late as 10 am it seemed like a shock that there was an order for this breakfast. The waitress of the day even seemed clueless about it. After taking the order, she just kept standing there, saying nothing. Just to be sure, I had to ask whether indeed they serve the Kuku Box breakfast and she said yes, they do and it is Shs 15,000 and that she needs to go with cash.
Fair enough, but why was that so hard to say in the first place? It took nearly 30 minutes to arrive but when it did, it was not exactly as advertised. Almost every diner who has been here, the one thing they don’t fault the place for is the food portions.
When it arrived, true to hype, it was a huge meal befitting the Shs 15,000 (actually Shs 10,000 because the juice is priced at Shs 5,000).
However, there was no sausage, no pancakes. They had been replaced with a Spanish omelette, the wedges replaced with chips, and the three chicken wings came as two small pieces and were not fresh at all.
Except for the toast and the passion juice, everything else from the chips, and omelette to the chicken seemed to have an inexplicable bitter aftertaste.
