Jacob Kiplimo (C) won gold in Australia
Uganda long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo on Saturday won the Regional Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia.
The 2022 Commonwealth double gold medalist, comfortably secured the 10 kilometres race victory in 29:17.02. He was followed by Aragawi Bet from Ethiopia who clocked 29:27.99.
Kiplimo now holds both the Cross-Country and Half-Marathon world titles. Joshua Cheptegei bagged Bronze in the same race after he came third clocking 29:38.01. Cheptegei, the 5,000m and 10,000m world record (WR) holder was defending the title he won four years ago in Aarhus, Denmark when Kiplimo took silver.
Meanwhile, in the women’s race over the same distance, Beatrice Chebet from Kenya won the senior women’s category after crossing the finishing line at 34:02.67. Ethiopian Tsigie Gebreselama came second with Kenya’s Agnes Jebet Ngetich third.
