Washing bay restaurants are never associated with proper meals and little wonder that not many diners know about Naalya’s Bubble Auto Spa restaurant.

It is dwarfed by the busy washing bay within the same premises. If only diners knew what they were missing!

For one, it’s an a’ la carte restaurant. The food might already be blanched but freshly prepared food always comes with that authentic natural and flavourful taste. You may have to wait for some 20 or so minutes before you get your meal, but because it is not so busy, your order will most likely be the only one in the queue.

The food choices are limited to pan-fried or roasted pork, chicken and beef – served with either ugali or potato wedges/chips. Finally, we have a restaurant that knows that gravy does not necessarily have to be the usual loose and blunt unappealing soup.

The gravy is filled with half-cooked carrot, onion and green pepper wedges. It pairs perfectly with the posho. Equally, the pan-fried, perfectly tenderized and seasoned pork has bell peppers, onions and carrots.

The earlier slight roast gives it the smoky appeal, whereas the deep frying adds a perfect crust to it while the vegetables balance it all off with a tropical base.

Despite the many spices and visible ingredients, the flavour balance was perfect with no flavour saturation of any of them. The tongue could taste them and yet it could not pick them out – hallmarks of a perfectly well-balanced meal.

The meals range between Shs 15,000 and Shs 20,000 depending on your order choice. Worth the price? A big yes.  If they could add to the pieces of meat they serve, even better; they leave you wanting more.
