Airtel Uganda signs pact with Universal Multipurpose Enterprises to Enhance Digital Connectivity

Kampala, Uganda — Universal Multipurpose Enterprises Ltd, a premier developer in Uganda and telecom giants Airtel Uganda have formalised a partnership that will bring Digital and Internet connectivity their residences.

The partnership, signed on Thursday through a Memorandum of Understanding by Universal Multipurpose Enterprises Managing Director Muffaddal Yeolawala and Airtel Uganda Head of Enterprise Sarwiat Rahman, will first be implemented at Macaw Residence in Naalya and aims to integrate reliable digital connectivity into modern residential living.

The partnership reflects a shared focus on improving the quality of life for homeowners in one of Kampala’s expanding middle-class neighbourhoods.

Naalya, located approximately 12.5 kilometres northeast of the city centre and accessible via the Northern Bypass, has grown into a residential hub with apartment complexes, shopping amenities such as Metroplex Mall, and proximity to key infrastructure.

In remarks at the signing, Yeolawala said the company views housing as more than physical construction.

“It is about creating modern communities and providing our homeowners with comfort, convenience and quality living,” he noted. Macaw Residence embodies this approach, and the partnership with Airtel is positioned as a step toward ensuring residents have access to the technology and connectivity essential for contemporary lifestyles.

Universal Multipurpose Enterprises, which also operates under the Affordable Housing Uganda brand, has developed multiple projects across greater Kampala and Wakiso, including duplex units in Naalya.

The firm has emphasised affordable options tailored to Ugandan buyers, including those in the diaspora, and has completed thousands of residential units across its portfolio.

Airtel Uganda, led by Managing Director Soumendra Sahu, has invested heavily in network expansion, 4G and 5G coverage, fibre infrastructure, and recent innovations such as satellite-to-mobile services in partnership with Starlink.

The telecom giant boasts of playing a key role in supporting digital inclusion and practical connectivity for homes, businesses and communities.

Officials from both sides described the collaboration as mutually beneficial, with potential to extend beyond Macaw Residence to other Universal developments. Yeolawala thanked Airtel for choosing Universal as its partner and thanked both teams for bringing the agreement to fruition. He called on both organisations to deliver meaningful value for homeowners.

“Together, we are not just building homes; we are empowering communities and shaping better living experiences,” he said.

The signing underscores growing links between Uganda’s real estate and telecommunications sectors as developers seek to differentiate projects through integrated technology, while operators look for structured opportunities to deliver services in planned residential environments.
