Motorists who pay for fuel at Shell service stations using MTN MoMo between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays will receive 20% cashback under a new promotion launched by Vivo Energy Uganda and MTN MoMo.
The campaign, dubbed “Fuel Happy Hour”, was launched on Monday at Shell Kitetika service station. Vivo Energy Uganda markets and distributes Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda, while MTN MoMo is the mobile money platform operated by telecom firm MTN.
According to the two companies, customers qualify by paying for fuel with MTN MoMo within the one-hour window on weekdays. Eligible transactions will receive the cashback subject to the campaign’s terms and conditions.
Alex Tusingwire, the retail manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, said the promotion was intended to reward motorists who buy fuel at Shell stations using MTN MoMo.
“As the leading oil marketing company in Uganda, we understand the daily mobility needs of our customers and stand by them during these hard economic times,” Tusingwire said.
He said the partnership would make it easier for customers to fuel at Shell and benefit from immediate cashback.
Keith Tukei, the chief commercial officer at MTN MoMo, said the company wants to make digital payments part of everyday life, noting that fuel is among the most frequent purchases many Ugandans make.
“Through this partnership with Vivo Energy Uganda, we are offering customers both convenience and value,” Tukei said.
The companies say the promotion is meant to encourage wider use of digital payments and give motorists savings on fuel costs.
