In a momentous occasion for Uganda’s financial sector, Dr. Patricia Ojangole, Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank (UDB), has been named Banker of the Year at the 19th African Banker Awards ceremony. The prestigious event, held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, recognizes exceptional leaders in the African banking industry who have demonstrated outstanding performance, innovation, and commitment to socio-economic development.

Dr. Ojangole’s achievement is a testament to her exemplary leadership and dedication to driving financial inclusion and economic growth in Uganda. Under her guidance, UDB has made significant strides in providing tailored financial solutions to support the country’s development agenda.

The African Banker Awards judging committee cited Dr. Ojangole’s outstanding integrity, clear vision, and commitment to socio-economic empowerment and development in her community. “This award is a foundation for me to advance Africa’s development agenda, leveraging tailored financial solutions that respond to the needs of Africans in a sustainable manner,” Dr. Ojangole said, expressing her gratitude for the recognition.

The award recognizes Dr. Ojangole’s inspirational leadership, innovative business practices, and commitment to expanding financial services to underserved communities. UDB’s efforts to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), women-led businesses, and agricultural development have been particularly noteworthy.

In addition to this prestigious award, UDB was also recognized by Uganda’s central bank for its outstanding performance in the Agricultural Credit Facility (ACF) and the Small Business Recovery Fund (SBRF). The bank won an award for timely and full payments of loans due and was recognized for disbursing the highest number of loans to projects contributing to value addition and supporting Uganda’s agricultural sector.
