MOGO Uganda has teamed up with Airtel Uganda to roll out a smartphone loan program, making it easier for more Ugandans to own popular devices like Tecno, Infinix, and itel.
The idea is simple—help people get smartphones without breaking the bank. With just a 28% down payment, you can walk away with a brand-new phone and pay the rest in small, flexible installments. Daily payments start from as low as shs848, and you can choose to pay daily, weekly, or monthly—whatever works for you. You’ve got up to 52 weeks to clear the balance.
Applying is quick and easy. All you need is your national ID and a SIM card that’s registered with mobile money. There’s no need for collateral or proof of income. You can apply at any Airtel store or through MOGO’s agents, and if everything checks out, you’ll get approved in about 15 minutes.
On top of that, Airtel is giving a nice little bonus—3GB of free data every month for the first three months. That means once you get your new phone, you can jump straight into WhatsApp, YouTube, online classes, or even run your small business—without worrying too much about buying data right away.
Douglas Kikonyogo, who handles marketing at MOGO Uganda, said this program is about more than just selling phones—it’s about helping people get connected. He pointed out that price is still one of the biggest reasons many Ugandans haven’t upgraded to smartphones, especially in areas where network and electricity access are limited. While basic phones are still common in rural areas, smartphones have become essential for staying informed, learning, and making a living.

In short, MOGO and Airtel are trying to make sure that more Ugandans can get online, stay in touch, and take advantage of the digital world—without the usual cost hurdles.
