Woman arrested for stealing newborn from Amolatar health centre

The woman allegedly stole the newborn on Friday

Police in Amolatar has arrested a woman over allegations of stealing a newborn baby from Amolatar health centre IV.

Stella Akullo, a resident of Otuboi in Kalaki district allegedly stole the baby on Friday from Winnie Aciro and Emmy Opio, residents of Angayiki village in Arwotcek sub-county, Amolatar district.

It is alleged that Akullo who was staying in the maternity ward for some time, told people that she was waiting for a patient who was to be delivered to the facility. When the baby went missing, people realized that Akullo had also disappeared, promoting an immediate manhunt.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga police spokesperson says that Akullo was picked from a landing site as she tried to leave the district. The suspect who has been charged with stealing a baby is being held at Amolatar Central police station under SD Ref: 02/24/05/2024.
