The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has announced a call for applications for FM radio broadcasting frequencies in select locations across the country

KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda Communications Commission has opened applications for FM radio broadcasting frequencies in select locations across the country.

The commission is seeking to improve access to radio broadcasting services in underserved areas. To achieve this, the commission has identified areas where FM radio frequencies are available.

These areas include Mayuge, Ntoroko, Arua, Kasese, Kabale, Kotido, Zomba, Yumbe and Kitgum. The available frequencies range from 500 watts to 1000 watts.

Applicants interested in operating an FM broadcasting station in any of these areas are required to submit a formal expression of interest. This expression should demonstrate how the proposed radio station will address the specific needs of the population in the targeted area.

Additionally, applicants should outline how their radio station will contribute to the socioeconomic development agenda of the area. The submission should also include the planned type of content, such as entertainment, news, education, or religious programming.

Furthermore, applicants must provide the geographical coordinates for the planned location of the broadcast transmitter.

The commission will select successful applicants through a competitive process. Once selected, applicants will be required to apply for and obtain a broadcasting license within 60 days.

The deadline for applications is February 7. All applications must be submitted through the commission’s online application platform.

The Uganda Communications Commission regulates the communications sector in Uganda, ensuring optimal use of radio frequency spectrum resources.
