Twesigye wins Stanbic bank half year mug

Ignatius Twesigye in action

Starting his round on the back nine, Ignatius Twesigye six over through eight holes during Stanbic Half Year Mug at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club at Kitante.

He had put together a card that had one par, one birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey. It was a typical Twesigye card; he can blow hot and cold like most amateur golfers.

But then something happened on hole 18, which altered the course of his mindset and set him on a path to a richly deserved victory at the Stanbic bank Half-Year Mug. The languid golf hit the longest drive of the day, a 345-yard bomb, that re- stored his mental fortitude to factory settings and instigated a glorious front nine.

Playing off handicap 13, Twesigye, an engineer, played his last 11 holes one-over par to coast to the overall prize composed ball-striking. He triumphed with 66 nett.

For his efforts, Twesigye took him the longest drive prize courtesy of RwandAir and the overall mug from Stanbic bank. The well-attended event played under excellent weather on Saturday, saw Sarah Nduhukire emerge best in the ladies category with a score of 71.

The women’s longest drive was taken by the age-less Gloria Mbaguta. The men’s nearest-to-the-pin bragging rights went to Albert Kisembo.
