Soroti LC 3 chairperson Ebau remanded over impregnating 15-year-old maid

Peter Ebau, the LC III chairperson of Awaliwal, Soroti district has been remanded over aggravated defilement and human trafficking.

Ebau, 38, was re-arrested and arraigned before court on Wednesday. He reappeared before Soroti grade one magistrate, Apollo Kibirige Kasujja on Friday. 

It is alleged that Ebau defiled and impregnated his 15-year-old housemaid. When Ebau learned that the girl was pregnant, he forcefully sent her back to her parents in Katakwi.

However, the parents and the clan of the girl, after learning that the victim was pregnant, sought help from the LC I chairman of Magara village in Toroma sub-county, Simon Peter Ariko. 

Although the matter was later reported to the police for investigations, the case almost flopped when the only document with the girl’s age was tampered with.

While appearing in court on Friday, magistrate Kibirige did not allow the suspect to enter any plea since the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case and remanded him to Soroti prison until June 14, when he will reappear for the mention of his case. The magistrate, however, advised Ebau to apply for bail from the High court.
