She Cranes tame Scotland ahead of Netball World Cup opener

She Cranes defeated 57-43 Scotland

Uganda’s netball team, the She Cranes staged an outstanding performance-winning 57-47 over Scotland at the Cape Town University today Wednesday.

The Scottish side gave Uganda’s technical team another match situation training, ahead of Friday’s World Cup throw-off in Cape Town, South Africa. Last Sunday, Uganda played to a 54-33 win over Barbados.

The She Cranes play Singapore in their opener scheduled for Friday. In the training against Scotland, coach Fred Mugerwa introduced a ‘new’ side, especially in the defence and the girls proved their worth, despite falling 11-12 in the opening quarter.

On resumption, the She Cranes took command of the remaining quarters, registering 25-23, 38- 36 and finally 54-47.
Uganda, who are ranked number 8 in the world, start the campaign against Singapore on July 28 before facing defending champions New Zealand the following morning.

The girls conclude their group D engagements against Trinidad and Tobago on July 30. Uganda is making its fourth appearance at this competition with the hope of exceeding the group stages that comprise three phases – including two pool legs.
