Nyabihuniko security guard arrested over missing health centre drugs, kits

Godfrey Byaruhanga with some of the stolen items

Godfrey Byaruhanga, a security guard at Nyabihuniko health centre III in Chahi sub-county, Kisoro district, has been arrested for allegedly stealing items from the facility.

The stolen items included drugs, a mattress, and health kits. Agnes Ayinkamiye, the in-charge of the health centre, reported that after the items went missing, a staff meeting was held, which Byaruhanga snubbed without providing a reason. This raised suspicions, especially since Byaruhanga did not report the missing items.

Authorities, with the assistance of police officers from Chahi police post, arrested Byaruhanga. During interrogation, he led them to his house where the stolen items were found. Byaruhanga admitted to taking the items for personal use, citing financial difficulties as the reason for his actions.
