FILE Police trainees in Masindi
A massive forgery scandal has hit the Police Training School Kabalye in Masindi District, leading to the arrest and charging of 69 trainee police officers.
The suspects, all aspiring probation police constables, allegedly presented forged academic documents to the police verification team, which were later discovered to be fake.
According to police reports, the commandant of the police training school, ACP Emitu Ezekiel Ebapu, reported the incident to Masindi Central police station, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that most of the suspects confessed to forging their documents with the intention of joining the police force.
BRIEF FACTS
Between July 13 and July 20, 2024, the suspects reported to the Police Training School Kabalye for training as probation police constables. They presented forged academic documents to the police verification team from UPF H/R, which identified the documents as fake. This prompted the commandant to report the case to CPS Masindi, registered under GEF 051/2024.
POLICE ACTION
A case of forgery and uttering false documents was registered at Masindi police station, and inquiries commenced under MSD GEF:051/2024,” according to police.
Police say, “a team of officers from Masindi police station, led by D/ASP Ochitti Simon Peter, immediately went to PTS Kabalye for inquiries.
A formal complaint was received from the commandant regarding the allegations. Statements were recorded from the reporter, witnesses, and suspects. Certified copies of the alleged forged documents were retrieved and attached to the file.”
The original documents will be taken to UNEB for verification by the team from UPF H/R. All suspects were handed over to CPS Masindi for further investigations, and they have been issued police bonds as inquiries continue, according to police.
