Lightning strike kills one, injures two more in Bugiri

Lightning on Thursday struck and killed Farouk Magumba, a resident of Idudi A cell in Bugweri district.

It is reported that lightning struck Magumba’s bedroom, torching it instantly. His body was burnt beyond recognition. Another two people within the same homestead were also injured and are currently receiving medical care at Iganga general hospital’s emergency ward.

Lukia Kagoya, a resident within the area says that, the heavy rains lasted for close to three hours and they were characterized with  lightning strikes and hailstorms. Bakali Muswabu, another resident says that, his wife sustained serious injuries after exposure to the lightning strike, but she is slowly responding to treatment.

Muswabu adds that, the lightning strike destroyed part of his house and other household items ranging from furniture, clothing, utensils, among others.

Charles Mulalu, the area LC I chairperson says that, several houses and farms were destroyed in the hailstorm and he has since called upon the Disaster Preparedness ministry to avail rescue support to the affected persons.

“About 30 families have lost shelter, livestock, farms, among other necessities and their general survival is at the mercy of well-wishers, therefore, I call upon the Disaster Preparedness ministry to aid us with some food items and iron sheets, which will enable my people to have sustainable buildups after this loss,” he says.
