Kyamate SS dormitories deliberately torched – police

The boys’ dormitories at Kyamate secondary school in Ntungamo district were deliberately torched using petrol, Rwizi Region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira has revealed.

According to Kasasira, investigators have since recovered an empty jerrycan with residues of petrol behind the school fence following the Sunday night fire.

Fire gutted Nyerere and Mandela dormitories claiming the life of Bonus Ankwatireire, a senior one from Isingiro district, and left three others including Marvin Nuwenyesiga, Isaiah Ajjuna, and Amanya Lisbon nursing injuries.

The two dormitories were home to 146 students. The school head teacher, Emmanuel Arinaitwe says they have allowed the deployment of the police and army officers at the school to find those behind the fire.

He says they have also allowed parents to visit their children and bring them necessities since they lost all their property in the fire.
