It was full house
After bringing Arua to a musical standstill on September 29, Fally Ipupa was live at Sheraton hotel gardens in Kampala last Sunday, and not even the heavy afternoon downpour could dampen the soukous/afropop vibe he brought.
It was my first time to watch Fally Ipupa live on stage and Sunday was a testament to the 45-year-old Congolese singer’s musical prowess and maturity.
The show was slated to start at 7pm, but people started queuing as early as 5pm once the rain mercifully stopped. By 6pm, the venue was full, yet more people were making their way to the Sheraton.
With songs such as SL, Mayday, and Un Coup, the audience effortlessly sang along, only keeping quiet when he was at the back and his dancers and band were in action. It helps that Kampala has quite a big Congolese population.
Fally Ipupa put up an energetic show and if you did not attend the Castle Lite-sponsored show, then you missed out on a great experience. The stage set-up was so beautiful and his legion of dancers can really move to the beat.
With the likes of Capt Mike Mukula in the audience, patrons abandoned their seats to dance, evidence that the love for Congolese music in Uganda is far from dead.
