Bushenyi man ‘hangs’ self inside lodge

Amon Mwesigye allegedly hanged himself in the lodge

Police in Bushenyi district are investigating circumstances under which Amon Mwesigye allegedly committed suicide inside a lodge.

Greater Bushenyi Region police spokesperson Martial Tumusiime says the incident occurred on Thursday night at Planet Bar and Lodge in Kigoma trading centre.

According to preliminary reports, Mwesigye initially went to the lodge for an evening out but later requested for accommodation which was provided by the lodge attendant, Maureen Kyosimire.

Kyosimire narrated that Mwesigye appeared to be mentally and physically normal at the time he was assigned a room for the night. He reportedly asked for a padlock to lock himself inside his room but the attendant declined the request.

Tumusiime says that on Friday morning, Anita Alinda, the owner of the bar found Mwesigye’s lifeless body hanging which prompted her to report to the police. Tumusiime adds that the lodge has been closed for investigations since it is a crime scene. Mwesigye’s body was conveyed to Kitagata hospital for a postmortem.
