A bus accident in Lwakhakha, Kenya has claimed the lives of 21 people and left many others in critical condition.

According to Bungoma district police commander, Patrick Kitau, the crash occurred around 8 pm yesterday Saturday about 3 kilometers from the Uganda-Kenya border.

According to Kitau, the fateful bus, registration number, KCL 850M belongs to Nairobi Bus Company and was travelling from Mbale in Uganda to Nairobi, Kenya. Kitau says, they are still establishing the identities of the deceased but confirmed that the majority of them are Ugandan nationals.

Their bodies are lying at Chepteyis and Lwandanyi hospital mortuaries awaiting to be identified by their relatives while the injured are receiving treatment at the same hospitals.

According to an eyewitness, the bus was moving at a high speed and failed to negotiate a small corner before veering off the road. He says the driver is believed to have been also drunk.
