Boyfriend arrested over strangling to death S.3 student in Serere

Phillip Ajotu, the boyfriend of an 18-year-old student Scovia Apio has been arrested over her murder.

Apio, an S.3 student at Homeland secondary school, was found dead in her room in the wee hours of Wednesday morning in Ocaapa town council, Serere district. According to preliminary reports, at around 4.00 pm on June 12, Apio’s brother, Tom Osako, went outside for a short call.

On returning, he allegedly met his sister who was heading outside for the same reason. Osaka says about five minutes later, he heard a commotion outside and upon investigation, he unsuccessfully tried to chase after a man who was running out of his sister’s room. When he returned to Apio’s room, he found her dead.

The murder was reported to the police, and the case was registered at CPS Serere under CRB:285/2024. Preliminary police findings indicate that Apio had received death threats from Ajotu on June 8, 2024. However, the alleged threats were not reported to the authorities.

It is believed that Apio and Ajotu developed a misunderstanding after she discovered that he was in love with her best friend. East Kyoga regional police spokesman, Edison Ebukulem, reported that the police tracked Ajotu to Kapelebyong district, where he was apprehended on Thursday evening.
