Ambulance catches fire with patient onboard in Rubirizi

The ambulance on fire

An ambulance belonging to Kasese Woman MP Florence Kabugho on Friday caught fire with a patient onboard. The incident occurred at Rutoto along Rubirizi-Mbarara in Rubirizi district.

The ambulance was donated by Kabugho in 2021 to help women access health services, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

The ambulance registration number, UBK 150G, was transporting a patient from Kagando hospital in Kasese to Mbarara regional referral hospital for specialized treatment. The patient and the two caretakers were rescued before they secured another ambulance and proceeded to Mbarara.

In May last year, an ambulance belonging to Bwera General hospital burst into flames at Yerya in Kibito sub-county along Fort Portal-Kasese road in Bunyangabu district killing two occupants.

The ambulance was coming from Kasese towards Fort Portal tourism city. It was later established that a leaking oxygen cylinder caused the fire.
