Airtel Uganda concludes successful Vroomula Amajja campaign

KAMPALA, Uganda — Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited (AMCUL) has wrapped up its three-month nationwide rewards campaign, Vroomula Amajja, which aimed to promote financial inclusion and a cashless economy in Uganda.

Launched in July, the campaign rewarded Airtel Money customers and agents with over UGX 1.5 billion in prizes, including a brand-new 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid, motorbikes, and digital cash prizes.

“We’re thrilled with the campaign’s success,” said Japhet Aritho, Airtel Money Managing Director. “In 90 days, Vroomula Amajja has not only changed lives but revolutionized how Ugandans think about digital transactions.”

The campaign impacted over 6,000 participants, with 4,050 customers winning digital cash prizes, 117 customers receiving motorbikes, and 585 agents and merchants recognized for promoting digital payments.

According to the Uganda Communications Commission’s (UCC) Q4 FY 2023/24 report, mobile money transactions increased to 1.84 billion, up from 1.72 billion in the previous quarter.

Aritho attributed the campaign’s success to Airtel’s reliable 5G network and the enabling environment created by the Bank of Uganda’s National Financial Inclusion strategy.

Charles Muwonge, a car mechanic from Wakiso, won the grand prize, a 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. “I’m overwhelmed with joy,” Muwonge said. “Airtel Money has changed my life.”

The Vroomula Amajja campaign demonstrates Airtel’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion and digital transactions in Uganda.
