Accountants elect Ossiya as their president

Josephine Okui Ossiya

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), a professional accountancy organization set to regulate the accountancy profession in Uganda, has elected Josephine Okui Ossiya as their first-ever female president to serve for a two-year term.

Constant Othieno Mayende, the chairman of the ICPAU Elections Committee, and also the outgoing president, made the announcement recently during a council meeting.

Ossiya was elected alongside with her vice, Ronald Mutumba, from amongst the council members. Ossiya is not new in Uganda’s financial industry; she sits on the board of Bank of Uganda, with some experts saying she has the qualities of being the next governor.

She is the chairperson of the Strategy and Finance Committee of the Bank of Uganda board. According to the ICPAU website, Ossiya has over 20 years’ experience in finance, audit, treasury management, risk management, general management and board governance.
